Documentation And Sketches
I knew right away I wanted to do the toothbrush holder because I knew I would never use the phone holder but I thought I could maybe use the toothbrush holder. When I originally sketched it I was gonna do rounded corners but I ran into some troubles because I could not download inventor at home, so I had to use sketchup. I drew my new sketch of my toothbrush holder without the rounded corners.
How I Completed This Project
To begin I drew out my toothbrush holder and I wanted it to be a 5 inch by 5 inch cube that was 5 inches tall. I wanted my cute out square to be 1 inch by 1 inch. Since I did not have inventor I was not able to round the corners but that was my original plan. If we were at school I would have then put my project into makerbot and made sure the dimensions and all the setting were correct but I do not have makerbot on my computer at home. The next step would be to put buy project on my flash drive and go print it on the 3-D printer and hopefully we are able to do that if we go back to school but we will see.
Using Sketchup
Sketchup was the alternative website for us to download if we couldn't get inventor so I had to adjust and learn how to use it. It was a struggle because it has far less tools to use than inventor does and I couldn't complete my project to the best that I wanted to but I did the best I could with what I had. First I started by making a flat square and dimensioned it to be a 5 by 5 square. Next I extruded it up and dimensioned it to be 5 inches tall. After that I put my four squares in and dimensioned them to all be 1 by 1, but I struggled here because I could not move the squares so they were not all lined up like they should be. Finally I extruded the four squares in so they were holes.
Final Evaluations
Overall I liked this project I struggled a little with it having to use sketchup but I did the best I could. I think this project would have been a lot of fun at school with inventor so I could have made the corners rounded and made my holes into circles instead of squares.
